Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild is the second wine of the legendary Château Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac. Crafted with the same meticulous attention as the grand vin, it reflects the elegance and precision of this historic estate. The 2021 vintage blends Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc from carefully selected parcels on the estate’s gravel soils, offering a refined and approachable expression of Pauillac with excellent structure and charm.
Tasting Notes Deep ruby in colour with bright reflections. The nose opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, followed by notes of cedar, graphite, and gentle spice. On the palate, the wine is smooth and balanced with polished tannins and vibrant freshness. Layers of cassis, plum, and subtle cocoa unfold, leading to a long and elegant finish with hints of tobacco and spice.
Food Pairing Pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roast lamb, or duck breast. It also complements hearty dishes such as beef stew, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses like Comté and cheddar. Decanting for a short time will help reveal its aromatic depth and structure.
Vintage Report 2021 The 2021 vintage in Pauillac produced wines that highlight precision, structure, and classic Left Bank character. After several warm and concentrated vintages, 2021 returned to a more traditional Bordeaux style focused on balance and freshness. Cabernet Sauvignon performed particularly well in Pauillac’s deep gravel soils. The wines show pure cassis and blackcurrant fruit, supported by refined tannins and lively acidity. Many estates achieved impressive balance thanks to careful vineyard work and a favorable late season before harvest.
