Pecorino is a rare and distinctive white grape variety, with only around 300 hectares planted across Abruzzo and the neighboring Marche region. Its name is believed to come from the resemblance between a grape bunch and a sheep’s head, a nod to the rural history of the area.
The vineyards are located around Ortona, along the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo. The vines face west and south west, benefiting from sea breezes and long, sunny days. They are planted on calcareous clay soils with a medium texture and trained using a traditional pergola system.
After harvest, the grapes are gently crushed, destemmed and pressed. Most of the juice ferments in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and purity, while a smaller portion matures in large oak barrels, adding subtle complexity and structure.
Taste description
Bright straw yellow in color. Fresh and inviting aromas of pear and white fruit, with a gentle hint of herbs. On the palate it is crisp and well balanced, showing lively freshness, soft texture and a clean, elegant finish.
Food pairing
A great match with seafood such as lobster and smoked fish, as well as creamy vegetable soups. Also delicious with roasted chicken and light poultry dishes.
